What Is the BEAT Score?
The BEAT Score is a new way to measure healthcare experiences through the lens of Bias, Equity, Accessibility, and Trust.
It’s a patient-led tool that gathers real stories, detects patterns of discrimination or mistreatment, and transforms them into actionable insights — for individuals, communities, and healthcare systems.
Who It’s For:
The BEAT Score was created for anyone who has ever felt:
• Ignored during a doctor’s visit
• Misgendered or misnamed
• Rushed, dismissed, or spoken over
• Unsafe because of your race, identity, or disability
• Like you had to bring a caregiver just to be taken seriously
“That didn’t feel right… but I don’t know how to explain it.”
The BEAT Score was born from moments like this — when patients feel something is off, but don’t have the words or power to name it.
Founder Andrew Charles Dunn, a nurse and public health advocate, created the BEAT Score to make these moments visible, trackable, and undeniable.

What It Looks Like:
• A short reflective survey
• AI-powered language analysis to detect emotional tone, barriers, and bias
• A scoring system based on Bias, Equity, Accessibility, and Trust
• Optional visual reports and community-level data trends
“Hospitals get rated for speed. Doctors get graded for efficiency.
But who’s listening for respect, equity, and humanity?”
The BEAT Score brings patient stories to the center of healthcare — not as an afterthought, but as a new metric of accountability.
